The Global Advocacy Award: Celebrating Global Citizenship and Impactful Leadership
In a world where the call for justice, peace, and environmental stewardship grows louder every day, it is essential to honor the individuals whose lives and actions embody the very spirit of global citizenship. Martin Luther University College, through the establishment of the Global Advocacy Award, aims to recognize those whose contributions make a lasting difference not just within their communities, but across the world. This prestigious award celebrates both national and international recipients whose efforts inspire a better tomorrow.
A Commitment to Justice, Peace, and Sustainability
The Global Advocacy Award is not merely an accolade—it is a recognition of a lifetime of work that champions the values we all strive toward: justice, peace, and the protection of the planet. This award honors individuals whose profound engagement with local and global issues exemplifies a commitment to creating a more inclusive and compassionate world. Whether through social justice advocacy, environmental activism, humanitarian aid, or fostering international cooperation, the recipients of the Global Advocacy Award are the trailblazers in the pursuit of these ideals.
The Pfrimmer Fund and Charitus: Enabling Global Impact
Funded by the Pfrimmer Fund through Charitus, the Global Advocacy Award carries the weight of significant support from organizations deeply committed to driving global change. The Pfrimmer Fund, named in honor of those who believe in a compassionate and just world, provides the financial backing that makes the Global Advocacy Award a reality. Through Charitus, this support is channeled to empower exceptional individuals, whose work has a ripple effect that extends far beyond their own borders.
The significance of this partnership lies in the alignment of Pfrimmer Funds purpose to promote and support initiatives that advance the cause of social and economic justice.
Charitus, with its vision as an innovative leader at the intersection of faith, finances and philanthropy, ensures that the impact of the Global Advocacy Award will be felt in meaningful ways, offering recipients not just recognition but also the resources to further their important work.
The Inaugural Award: Bishop Dr. Munib Younan
The inaugural Global Advocacy Award was presented to an individual whose life and work exemplify the values this award seeks to honor: Bishop Dr. Munib Younan, the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. Bishop Younan’s commitment to interfaith dialogue, peacebuilding, and the rights of marginalized communities has made him a beacon of hope in a region often beset by conflict and division. In 2024, Dr. Fikse Tsehai, Senior Policy Advisor at CLWR was honoured with the award. Dr. Tsehai, for more than three decades, has lifted up Lutheran Communities in Canada and worldwide through his dedicated work in refugee resettlement. Dr Tsehai and The Rev. Dr. Kristine Lund, Principal-Dean of Martin Luther University College are pictured right.
A Path Toward a Better Future
The Global Advocacy Award represents more than just a recognition of past achievements—it is a call to action for all of us. As we celebrate the accomplishments of awardees like Bishop Younan, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to work towards a world where justice prevails, peace thrives, and the integrity of our planet is safeguarded.
The Global Advocacy Award is more than an honor—it is a celebration of the spirit of global citizenship. It brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds and causes, all united by their shared commitment to fostering positive change. With the Pfrimmer Fund and Charitus as its supporters, the award ensures that the legacy of those it honors will continue to inspire generations of leaders, activists, and advocates working to make the world a better place for all.
